To all whom z't may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE STERNBERG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Brighton, Staten Island, N. Y., have invented a new and useful Impression Cup and Matrix, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to an improved dental impression cup. Such a device is sometimes termed a thimble or a matrix and is designed to receive impression material for the purpose of taking an impression of an individual tooth for crowns, inlays and may also be used as a matrix to form a plastic lling. Such devices as now made are in the form of a cup integral throughout and relatively expensive to manufacture and diflicult to ship with safety because of their form. My invention comprehends a very substantial improvement in such a structurev which very materially reduces cost of manufacture, adds to safety and decreases the eX- pense of transportation and facilitates adjustment or adaptability toa wide variety of conditions, that is to say, whereas the thimbles and bands now in use must be made of different sizes to fit dil-ferent conditions. My improvement enables me to produce a thimble of any desired size within bounds.

Referring to Fig. 4, I have shown thev main body l 1n the form of a strip of sheet metal which may be blanked out to the proper size, and I form therein a plurality of perforations which may be either in the Specification of Letters Patent.

In operation: The blank l is preferably made of metal such as copper, for example, which can be readily bent or conformed to the desired size and shape by fitting it to the tooth of which an impression is to be taken. The blank is then locked in this position by means of the locking tongues, which tongues are passed through the adjacent perforations and bent over as shown in Fig. l, there being in this instance only one tongue 4 employed. The oiset or projection 6 is then bent down to close one end of the device and form the cup shaped member in which the impression material may be placed and held as shown in Fig. 2. When the cup or thimble is thus formed and filled, it may be forced on to the tooth by thumb or finger pressure applied to the end piece 6. Obviously the outer edge of the cup may be trimmed by the dentist using the same to fit any particular condition that he may find calls for such trimming or reshaping. l
While I have shown my matrix in certain preferred forms, it is obvious that it may be modified in various respects without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
