Protected species of plants from Bucegi Natural Park, Romania

When we walk on mountain paths, we all see flowers taking out their shy little heads through the grass. Sometimes people collect them without knowing that some of them are endangered species.

I will continue to introduce you to some of the species of plants found on the Red List of higher plants, that I encountered while exploring one of the most popular natural parks in our country - Bucegi Natural Park.

It was April of 2012 when I decided to make a trip to Piatra Arsa Botanical Reserve. The plants that delighted me with their beautiful colors, which just sprung from the fluffy snow and that I found out later that they were protected species into the Park are: Dentaria glandulosa, Galanthus nivalis (Snowdrop), Hepatica transsilvanica (Cross Hale), Leontopodium alpinum (Edelweiss or Queen's Flower) and Pulmonaria rubra.

1.      Dentaria glandulosa

Plant which belongs to the Brassicaceae family, Dentaria glandulosa, is a carpathian endemic plant. This is a perennial plant that has red or purple flowers gathered in racemes.

Snowdrop is a perennial, herbaceous plant, which blooms between February and April. It has an active substance called galantamine which is an aid in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, but certainly not a cure.
