Found in Sweden, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Romania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine and central Russia as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial orchid that is similar to G conopsea except with a shorter stem and 4 to 6 leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on a cylyndrical, often flexuous, densly many flowered, bracteate, 9 to 15" [22.5 to 37.5 cm] long, racemose inflorescence with sweetly scented, color variable flowers.
