Carlina vulgaris, the carline thistle, is a plant species of the genus Carlina.
It is a biennial that grows on limestone, chalky or other alkaline grasslands or dunes.Its origins are traced long ago from Europe, north Africa and Asia but it can also be located in other parts of the world such as north America. It is considered to be an invasive plant.The Carline thistle possess clusters of flower heads that look like dead or dying daisies. They are actually composite flower heads, consisting of brown florets (tiny flowers) surrounded by a fringe of golden bracts (leaf-like structures). In the bright sunshine, they glisten silver and gold.

Carlina is used for gallbladder disease, poor digestion and spasms of the esophagus, as a diuretic to reduce water retention,as a tonic and to cause sweating.
