Carex divulsa in full sun #790499

Asked May 12, 2022, 3:59 PM EDT

This grass is supposed to do well in full sun. I had them planted by my house and they did well there in intermittent sun. Maybe as much as 6 hours in summer. When I moved them to a site with full sun they've grown well but are a lighter green and spread out and lie down especially during the day. They're on new fill beside a new storm water drainage ditch. I have the feeling I just need to have the soil tested but have done that in the past and the recommended stuff is always so complicated. Can you suggest any thing else? Many thanks! (Carex Greyii is doing very well in the same soil.)

New fill dirt can be a real mixed bag in terms of its pH and fertility, so I would definitely recommend a soil test.  You can call our Master Gardener volunteers<personal data hidden> or email them with your soil report once you get it.  <personal data hidden>
I would also take care not to overfeed them, as this can make plant tissue soft and floppy.  But it would be hard to discern what the problem is until you eliminate potential issues with the soil test.
