Summary[edit]
DescriptionTall Melilot (Melilotus altissimus) - geograph.org.uk - 1591210.jpg |
English: Tall Melilot (Melilotus altissimus). Shown here is one small part of a fairly large patch that was growing beside the gate shown at 1587928
This species is very similar to Ribbed Melilot (M. officinalis); there are some differences in the relative lengths of the petals, but the species are better distinguished by certain details of the fruits (if present). According to Stace's "New Flora" they are both introduced rather than native species, and they typically occur in open grassland or in waste places. [Some older books call this plant M. altissima, but the name Melilotus is now treated as masculine: http://ibot.sav.sk/icbn/no%20frames/0067Ch7OaGoNSec2a62.htm (ICBN, Article 62).] |
