Prolific and easy-to-grow filler plant or stunning garden border plant. Amaranthus 'Hot Biscuits' is a splendid ornamental addition to the garden and for flower arrangements. This gorgeous and graceful amaranth feature bold spikes of coppery-bronze to chestnut colored branching plumes that rise above the foliage from early summer to mid autumn and are ideal for autumn bouquets and bunches. Pinching out the center (apical) bud is recommended for optimum branching. It attracts pollinators like crazy.

Amaranthus Cruentus (or Hot Biscuits) seeds can be started indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the end of frost season and then transplanted outdoors. Or for areas with long growing seasons, start the flower seeds directly outside once temperatures are consistently warm.

Note: I have found that there is a tiny beetle that loves this plant in my neck of the woods. I treated the plant with diatomaceous earth – food grade and it takes care of that tiny stripe beetle. Neem oil is not a good idea at all. The plant does not like Neem oil…. I found this out the hard way, although the plant has survived it has bad blemishes on the leaves….ugh.

The plumes grow richer in burnt orange or bronze color as the weather gets cooler.

This year one of my hot biscuits plant reached about 8' tall. But the grasshoppers loved it. I did not keep "diatomaceous earth" on it like I should have.  But you can see in the pic how tall it is.
