A rare and exciting natural hybrid of a primrose and a cowslip which, on close inspection, resembles a large cowslip with primrose like flowers. Primula elatior holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its striking looks and its reliable performance. In the wild it has quite exacting requirements in order to naturally develop and is mostly found around the Suffolk area. These plants are the perfect way to ensure that you have some of these beautiful blooms to admire in your garden throughout April and May. Primarily a woodland plant, they will also flourish in meadow-like environments and live happily in baskets and containers too. Plant with narcissus and bluebells for a dreamy woodland impact or with dwarf iris and muscari for a more orchestrated effect. Primula elatior is just perfect for balconies and patios too.Primula elatior prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade. A hardy herbaceous perennial which reaches a height and spread of up to 45cm.
