Ford India has launched the new Figo hatchback in India; this comes 6 years after the first-gen model was launched here and about a month after its compact-sedan sibling, the Ford Figo Aspire, was introduced to the market. The Ford Figo is aimed at the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio etc.

The new Ford Figo hatchback is priced between Rs. 4.30 Lakh – Rs. 7.41 Lakh, (introductory) ex-showroom Delhi.

“Built on Ford’s latest global platform, the all-new Figo is an able and worthy successor to one of Ford’s most well-known and trusted nameplates in India,” said Nigel Harris, President and Managing Director, Ford India. “An outstanding value for money package, the new Figo is cleverly built to appeal to the Indian consumers who don’t want to compromise on looks, practicality, safety, cutting-edge technology and above all, exceptional fuel efficiency.”

The new Ford Figo is being offered with 7 paint options – Ruby Red, Tuxedo Black, Deep Impact Blue, Ingot Silver, Sparkling Gold, Oxford White and Smoke Grey. Two engines – a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol (developing 88PS/112Nm and returning 18.16 km/l) and a 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel (developing 100PS/215Nm, returning 25.83 km/l) are available mated to 5-speed manual gearboxes while a 1.5-litre petrol (developing 112PS/136Nm, returning 17 km/l) is also available exclusively with a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

With overall dimensions of 3886mm length, 1695mm width, 1525mm height, ground clearance of 174mm and a wheelbase of 2491mm makes it one of the largest hatchbacks in its segment. This translates into the Figo having good road presence as well as the obvious advantages in terms of interior space. Ford says there are around 20 unique storage spaces in the car along with 257-litres of boot space which can be expanded by folding flat the rear seats.

The Figo is a smart looking car, and closely matches the Figo Aspire compact-sedan – save, of-course, for the boot.

The exterior design highlights include a large Aston-Martin-esque grille, large headlamps, 14-inch wheels, strong shoulder-line, large tail-lamps and a chrome-lined tail-gate.

Inside, the Figo gets an all-black theme with silver inserts around the cabin to liven it up. The silver-trim can be found on the centre-console, the lower-centre storage compartment, door-pads and steering wheel. The instrument cluster gets a simple three-pod design with analogue gauges and a small multi-information display.

Equipment highlights for the Figo include the MyFord Dock, first introduced on the Figo Aspire, which allows occupants to easily place and charge their smart-devices and also use the same for navigation if necessary with the advantage of in-car entertainment integration. Ford’s SYNC with AppLink connectivity is also on offer on top-of-the-line variants. The Ford MyKey allows owners to set limits on how the car is used in terms of top-speed, encouraging seat-belt usage, regulating audio volume etc.

Ford is highlighting its push for greater safety on Indian roads, a driver-side airbag is offered as standard across the range, while dual-front airbags are offered on all variants except the base variant. The top-end variant gets 6-airbags in total, which is a segment first.
