    Cirsium acaule 'Stemless Thistle'

    [Ex. Lovčen 1400 m., Montenegro]

    Asteraceae: a perennial herb. Found on short, calcerous grasslands. The leaves are a spreading rosette, spiny, 10-15cm long. There is usually only one flower head, although there can sometimes be 2-3. Usually it is not stalked from the leaf rosette. The flower head is 3 to 4 cm long, the florets are red/purple. They flower from June to September. Native to Europe to Central Asia.

     

    GROWING INFORMATION:

    These seeds germinate rapidly depending on species and origin. If germination does not occur after 3–4 weeks a cooling period of 2–4 weeks is recommended. An easily grown plant, succeeding in any ordinary garden soil in a sunny position.
