Aethusa cynapium 'Fool's Parsley'

Apiaceae: a delicate, hairless annual with slender, ribbed stems to 50cm. found in gardens and arable fields. The flowers are white, in umbels 2-3cm across, booming from June-September. The leaves are twice pinnate, flat, and triangular in outline. Commonest in the southern part of Britain. Native to Most of Europe, including Britain, to the Caucasus and south to Algeria.

USES:

Although fairly toxic, fool's parsley has occasionally been used in folk medicine. The herb is said to have sedative and stomachic properties.

Warning: The entire plant is poisonous. though less so than Conium maculatum.

GROWING INFORMATION:

Sow seeds in autumn or spring. They grow best on disturbed well-drained soil, in full sun to part shade. Easy!
