Computer Desk Cake
By now you should know that I like to make cakes for just about any reason. In fact, I think Cake should be a major food group!
I especially like to make cakes for unit functions, or when someone transfers away to a new unit. This time, I am the one that transferred to a new unit. I know it doesn’t seem customary for someone to make their own cake, but what can I say? I am a bit of a cake snob.
This was an apple caramel cake with white chocolate-caramel ganache filling and crumb coating. It was then covered in Fondarific brand cinnamon bun flavor fondant. I love this flavor combination!
The top was brushed with brown luster dust to make it look like a desk.
The computer tower and monitor were made with Rice Krispy Treats, covered in fondant. I used a white sugar sheet for the screen and wrote on it using black and blue food writers (food coloring markers). The tower has two CD drives, complete with green LEDs.
The poster on the side of the computer tower was made with a sugar sheet, as well. I colored it yellow first, and then used a black food writer to draw the “block diagram” with verbiage. My friend actually gave me that “Post-it note”.
I modeled the keyboard and mouse after the ones I have at home (Dell). Did you notice the ladybug mouse pad?
The coffee pot was meant to look like the kind you might see in a diner, but I made an orange handle instead of brown, just so it would be visible against the “coffee”. It was not meant to be decaf, promise! The coffee cup is an AGI coffee cup, which my Space Command buddies will recognize in an instant. Who doesn’t love AGI (STK) training?!
The plate of chocolate chip cookies was about the size (diameter) of a quarter. I thought there should be something sweet on the desk because my real desk always has goodies! Hey – round is a shape; I am in shape :-p
The mouse, keyboard, coffee cup, pot of coffee, and plate of chocolate chip cookies were all made by hand with fondant.
