My wife forgot her backpack once in a bus, and we got it back after half an hour nothing missing in the backpack. So grateful.

An efficient way to get around Vienna!
You'd think for such a beautiful city with such thought put into the public buildings, they'd put more public artwork in there. But it's nice, and clean! Signs are easy to read, the walking distances between subway lines isn't too far.
They broadcast announcements clearly, and there are maps on the trains. Everything was well lit, clean, and easy to navigate!
I especially liked the ease of getting tickets from the kiosks, available in a myriad of languages. Just remember to validate your ticket if you use it later.
Unfortunately, you can't drink beer on the subway here in Vienna. Hmph.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Dave B.Northwest, Denver, CO15015452550Oct 12, 2019

Our brief experience with Wiener Linien was two-fold. We rode the Ring Tram, which was a worthwhile experience. We found this to be a great way to see the ring road and the wonderful architectural specimens along the way. We also used U-Bahn Line 4 to get from our hotel just outside of City Center to Shönbrunn Castle. We found the service to be on-time and the stations to be clean and comfortable. We also noted that the trains were well maintained and pleasant to use. The system seemed to be a very good way to get around Vienna.

Such a fabulous subway system in Vienna! The trams and buses are also wonderful. If only NYC has something like this. It was not easy coming back to NYC subway-hell after the clean, well-maintained, on-time system in Vienna. Oh well.....

If only all big cities had a great public transportation system like Vienna! The frequency of buses, trams, U and S trains is excellent. The only not so good thing: the stupid system for a monthly and weekly pass, where management insists that a monthly pass must be for the calendar month and weekly passes can only start on Monday. WRONG! I just came from Munich and that city's transport system, like many others, lets you buy a monthly pass ANY DAY OF THE MONTH and a week can start on any weekday. That is how the public is served, not with some rule that seems to predate computers and is unchanged while technology and everything else changes.
I wish this fact would also go into the heads of the Wiener Linien management!!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Bernha…)Vienna, Austria47923Aug 31, 2009
Public transport in vienna is mainly devided into 3 main systems: Busses, 5 underground lines and countless tramway lines. More or less you can reach every point of the city within 30 to 50 minutes - the price for the ticket is always the same. If you stay longer in vienna, there are several discount offers available. Check their website. This website also holds an excellent and exact route planner which finds the shortest connection between two points.

Vienna has one of the best transport systems in the world, rivalling some of the leaders like Hong Kong and Singapore where service and standards are unparalleled. Services are fast and efficient and the trams and trains are generally cleaner and well maintained than other European cities like Paris, Rome and even London. The website is also superb use it to find the fastest route from point place to destination.
