Leonardo DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974, in Los Angeles, California. Leo's acting work began in 1989 with the television series Parenthood, which is also where he met his best friend Tobey Maguire. He followed that role up with work on Santa Barbara and then 1991s Growing Pains. However, Leo is more known for his film work, which started with 1991s Critters 3. In 1993, at the age of 19, Leo earned his first Oscar nomination (Best Supporting Actor) for the film What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
In 1997, Leo starred in the hugely successful film Titanic. In 2002, Leo starred in director Martin Scorcese's Gangs of New York, starting a relationship of Leo being Martin's new "it" boy, much like the relationship he had with Robert DeNiro. Leo would next work with Scorcese in The Aviator (earned him a Best Actor nomination) and The Departed. Leo received his third Best Actor nomination from the Oscars with his 2006 film Blood Diamond.
