JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Just in their first season of competition, the Minot State women's wrestling team is already building a healthy rivalry with in-state foe Jamestown.
Coming off hosting their first-ever home duals which concluded with a head-to-head battle with the Jimmies, the Beavers now head South for a Sunday dual at Jamestown.
Last time the two battled on the mats both were worn down by a busy weekend filled with three duals each, leaving both teams a bit banged up. Jamestown took the win, though, 33-10.
After two weeks of rest, Sunday's rematch should be a good one, and a chance for a few of Minot State's newest student-athletes to showcase their talents.
Three of the Beavers top first-year women's wrestlers are
Jazmin Gorder,
Nina Sandoval, and
Annika Gotlieb.
Gotlieb, who competes at 130 pounds, has the distinction of earning the first-ever win in program history, a 17-8 technical fall victory. One of several wins this season for Gotlieb who is 5-7 on the year with four wins by pin.
Also racking up five wins has been Gorder, a 123-pounder who is 5-4 with three wins by pin.
And leading the way in both wins and pins so far is Sandoval, who scored victory No. 2 in program history, and in her collegiate debut season is 9-6 with six wins by pin at 155 pounds.
