Description
A superb foliage perennial for full or partial sun, heartleaf ox-eye forms lusty clumps of large cordate (botanical for "heart-shaped"), deeply toothed, foot-wide leaves. Egg-yolk-yellow "daisies" on 5-foot stalks unfurl their narrow ribbon-like petals in midsummer, their frilliness providing a bracing textural contrast to the bold leaves. Plants spread moderately by rhizomes and sometimes generously by seed, so give it vigorous companions and generous elbow-room. A first-rate cottage garden or perennial border subject. Zone 4.
