No. 6 Buckeyes Sweep Columbia, Hofstra Sunday in New York

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 6 Ohio State (4-0) started a Sunday double header at Columbia (0-2) with a 49-0 win over the Lions and followed that effort with a 51-0 win at Hofstra (0-1) in the afternoon.

Since opening the season with a 24-12 win at No. 3 Virginia Tech, Ohio State has won its last 33 individual matches.

Ohio State earned bonus points in 19-of-20 matches Sunday in New York. 

How it Happened vs. Hofstra

165-No. 18 Bryce Hepner (OSU) def. Matt Rogers (HOF) | TF, 18-2 (7:00)
In his first action of the season, Hepner struck first with a pair of takedowns to lead 6-1 after the first three minutes. The wrestlers started neutral in the second before Hepner added two more takedowns to lead 12-2 after five minutes. Again starting neutral to open the third, got the final takedown to win by technical fall, 18-2.  

174-No. 6 Carson Kharchla (OSU) def. Ross McFarland (HOF) | MD, 17-3 
Kharchla led 6-1 after the first period on a pair of takedowns. McFarland escaped to open the second before a Kharchla takedown made it 9-2 to close out the second. An escape upped the lead to 10-2 before a Buckeye takedown increased the advantage to 13-2. Kharchla finished the match to win by major decision, 17-3.

184-No. 10 Gavin Hoffman (OSU) def. Will Conlon (HOF) | TF, 19-4 (5:27)
Hoffman battled for the opening takedown for a 3-0 lead after 90 seconds. A minute later Hoffman added the second takedown of the period for a 6-1 lead after three minutes. Conlon chose bottom and Hoffman let him go for a Hofstra escape point. After a Hoffman takedown, Conlon added another escape point before another Hoffman takedown made it 12-3 Buckeyes after five minutes. The match ended with a win by technical fall, 19-4, for the Buckeyes. 

197-No. 14 Luke Geog (OSU) def. Nikolas Miller (HOF) | TF, 18-1 (3:57)
Geog got the quick start with a double-leg takedown before another three-points on a takedown for a 6-1 lead. A four-point near fall made it 10-1 Buckeyes after the first three minutes. Geog escaped to open the second period before a takedown increased the Ohio State lead to 14-1. Geog added a four-point near ball to win by technical fall, 18-1.

HWT-No. 17 Nick Feldman (OSU) def. No. 20 Keaton Kluever (HOF) | TF, 20-5 (5:23)
In the only match of the day between two ranked opponents, Feldman went up 9-3 in the first on three takedowns. An escape and takedown early in the second made it 13-3 Feldman. Kluever added an escape point before being called for stalling to give Feldman a 14-4. A late takedown upped the advantage to 17-4 Buckeyes heading into the third. Feldman then got the win by technical fall with a takedown to win it 20-5.



125-Brendan McCrone (OSU) def. Dylan Ryder (HOF) F, 4:19
McCrone started the second half of the bout with an opening takedown and four near fall points for a 7-1 lead after three minutes. McCrone started from the down position to open the second and added two points for a reversal and a 9-1 lead before getting the pin. 



133-No. 16 Nic Bouzakis (OSU) def. Ryan Arbeit (HOF) | F, 1:03
Bouzakis wasted little time in adding the second pin of the match, earning the Buckeyes six team points just over a minute into the bout. 

141-Brandon Cannon (OSU) def. Alex Turley (HOF) | TF, 17-2  (7:00)
Cannon scored first with a takedown on the edge of the mat to lead 3-0 after the first. Cannon methodically built a 16-2 lead in the third before winning by technical fall, 17-2, after a point was added for riding time. 

149-No. 5 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU) def. Noah Tapia (HOF) | TF, 19-2 (5:29)
D'Emilio quickly got out to a 10-1 lead after the first three minutes. Tapia escaped midway through the second before a takedown upped the lead to 13-2 after five minutes. D'Emilio finished off the match with a 19-2 win by technical fall. 

157-No. 17 Paddy Gallagher (OSU) def. Frank Volpe (HOF) | TF, 22-5 (5:35)
Gallagher took a 12-3 lead after the first period with four takedowns. Gallagher added two takedowns in the second with an additional point for stalling to lead 18-5 after five minutes. He finished off the match with a win by technical fall, 22-5.

How it Happened vs. Columbia

125-Brendan McCrone (OSU) def Sulayman Bah (COL) | D, 13-8
McCrone attacked first but was not able to finish for early points but Bah countered for a takedown and a 3-0 lead. McCrone escaped to trail 3-1 after the first. From neutral position, McCrone got the quick takedown and four-point near fall for an 8-3 lead. Another near fall made it 12-3 McCrone after two periods. A second stalling call against McCrone made it 12-4. Bah was credited with a late takedown in the third that was reviewed and upheld. McCrone finished off the match with a 12-7 win by decision.

133-No. 16 Nic Bouzakis (OSU) def. Yanni Vines (COL) | TF, 20-3 (6:01)
Bouzakis scored first with four quick takedowns. Ohio State finished the first with a 13-3 lead. Bouzakis added a four-point near fall for a 17-3 advantage heading to the third. Bouzakis then got the takedown for a 20-3 win by technical fall.  

141-Brandon Cannon (OSU) def. Mason Clarke (COL) | TF, 20-4 (4:47)
Cannon, in his first dual match as a Buckeye, got the edge-of-the mat takedown for a 3-0 lead. He added another takedown and two more for a near fall to make it 8-1 Cannon. Three more back points made it 11-1 after the first. A Cannon escape followed by a Clarke takedown made it 12-4 Buckeyes. An escape and Cannon takedown upped the lead to 16-4. Cannon then took the match by technical fall, 21-4, after a four-point near ball and point for riding time. 

149-No. 5 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU) def. Kenny Duschek (Jr.) | Fall, 2:22 
D'Emilio jumped to a 6-1 lead with a pair of takedowns and finished off the match with a fall near the edge of the circle to add six points to the Ohio State team score. 

157-No. 17 Paddy Gallagher (OSU) def. David Berkovich (COL) | TF, 20-4 (4:45)
Gallagher got the opening takedown. He added another for a 6-1 lead after the first. Gallagher escaped for a 7-1 lead. After another takedown made it 10-2, Berkovich was called for stalling and Gallagher added another takedown for a 14-3 lead. Gallagher then finished off the match with a 21-4 win by technical fall. 

165-Isaac Wilcox (OSU) def. Andy Garr (COL) | MD, 15-4
Wilcox jumped to a 6-1 lead before a four-point near fall made it 10-2 Buckeyes after the first period. The lead increased to 13-4 with a Wilcox takedown and Garr escape after two periods. Wilcox finished the match with a win by major decision, 14-4.

Kharchla struck early with a takedown and led after three minutes, 9-2. An escape made it 10-2 Buckeyes. After the second, Kharchla led 16-3. With a final takedown, Kharchla finished off the match with a win by technical fall, 20-3.

184-No. 10 Gavin Hoffman (OSU) def. Joe Curtis (COL) | Fall, 1:26 
Hoffman, in his first action of the year after dropping down from 197 to 184, got a fall after three quick takedowns to win in less than 90 seconds. 
 



197-No. 14 Luke Geog (OSU) def. Michael Baker (COL) TF, 17-2 (3:59) 
Geog posted the win by technical fall after a couple four-point near fall calls gave the Buckeyes five team points.

HWT-No. 17 Nick Feldman (OSU) def. Nolan Neves (COL) | TF, 19-4 (4:11)
Feldman led 9-2 after the first period with three quick takedowns. An escape and takedown made it 13-2 Buckeyes. Feldman then got the technical fall, 19-4.
