Description

Arabis alpina subsp. caucasica , Mountain Rock Cress

Arabis Caucasica is a dwarf, compact growing perennial. Arabis produces tiny, fragrant, pink flowers on a top of olive-green foliage. Arabis blooms from mid-spring to end of summer attracting masses of butterflies and bees. Arabis is a very popular and useful plant and one of the best for the rockery, excellent ground cover, and one of the best plants for growing down walls in wall gardens or over stones. Mountain Rock Cress can also be grown in containers. Arabis Alpina Caucasica does well in light shade, but performs best in full sun, so bloom time can be slightly shorter in shade.

Sow seed indoors in a soil-less mix in January or February; germinate at 24 C (75 F) for 21 days. Press seed into contact with the soil but do not cover as light is essential for germination. After germination, grow on under lights at a slightly cooler temperature before hardening off and transplanting to a sunny or partially shaded site. Two grams sows 3 sq. m.
