Taxonomy: Fam. Chenopodiaceae// Genus: Bassia// Species: Bassia scoparia (L.) A. J. Scott

Determined according to the botanical keys provided in The Flora of the Republic of Macedonia (Micevski, 1995) and Flora Europaea (Ball in Tutin et al., 1964) as Kochia scoparia (L.) Schrader, Neues Jour. Bot. 3 (3-4): 85 (1809). The accepted name in the Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Uotila, 2011) is Bassia scoparia (L.) A. J. Scott in Feddes Repert. 89: 108. 1978.

Lifeform:  Annual, therophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native from East Europe to Temperate Asia; introduced in Europe, parts of Asia, New Zeland, North and South Africa, North America – USA and Canada, South America – Argentina according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).

Introduced and naturalized in the Osogovo region.

Habitat: Near settlements, roadsides, waste places and other ruderal areas; also found in cultivation.

Flowering period:  Late summer: AUG.
