Distribution: Native to the Azores, Europe, Mediterranean to Iran, Arabian peninsula and Eritrea; North-Central China to Japan according to the distribution information provided by the Plants of the World Online portal (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew).
Habitat: Damp places – near rivers and streams.
