A Lavish Spectacle of Lovecraftian Art

Ever since we found the illustrated version of The Call of Cthulhu by the French illustrator François Baranger, we've been fans. He's followed up that fantastic work by illustrating another of HPL's celebrated stories, At the Mountains of Madness. The first volume has just been published in English and is quite simply, spectacular.

This new English edition published by Fria Ligan and Design Studio Press features gorgeous paintings from the HPL's tale of Antarctic horror. Baranger's approach to the tale is bold and cinematic - you feel as if you're looking at storyboards for a movie. The scale and intensity in the illustrations are breathtaking.

The book is a large format hardback, 14 x 10.5 inches. The print quality is superlative. Really, if you're into Lovecraftian art, you'll want a copy of this. Note: this is Vol. 1 of a two volume set. Vol. 2 has not yet been published in English and is due out in November of 2021.

I love these books!

I thought I would round out my collection and Purchase Volume 1. Just like Call of Cthulhu the art is amazing and well drawn. I love seeing what others see and I think art is the best medium to produce it. It is the first half of At The Mountains of Madness, and it is beautiful!

Terrific and Terrifying

Absolutely gorgeous and horrifying artwork makes this classic jump out and take hold of you. The quality and detail contained in both these volumes, as well as Baranger's illustrated The Call of Cthulhu, are exceptional.

A COLLECTIBLE TREASURE

I snagged a copy of this book right when I stumbled upon its existence. Now I anxiously wait for volume two, fearing I will miss it. The illustrations are beautiful and they satisfyingly depict the vast ladscapes of the story. I am so excited to see the rest!
