They caught my attention
Popping up under pine trees in my front yard
Reminiscent of wild orchids I found as a child walking through hardwood forests of Northeast Pennsylvania
I thought I must be mistaken
Unfortunately I was correct
Unfortunately because these orchids are an introduced species brought to America as a medicinal plant which escaped those early gardens and now proliferate woodlands
Careful what you wish for I’ve read they could become a gardeners worst nightmare!

This orchid is now common, that you are able to find it in the city under the tree or shady area.
Ahh, the ying and yang of nature’s bounty…isn’t it always the way?!
What a lovely sentiment …
Beautiful…whatever it is and however it got there! 🙂
So that’s what it is. I’ve seen one or two in my garden. I like their leaves, though the flowers are too tiny to be admired, really. Now I know I shouldn’t like it at all. Thank you.
I think you should count your blessings. There are much uglier weeds 😉
Didn’t know orchids could be invasive, but alas, often happen with introduced species. Looks interesting though.
Cynthia Reyes has mentioned that the flowers are tiny. If she had not done that, would not have known it, not from the photographs! Kudos on presenting such clear pictures. meander1’s Ying and Yang comment is beautiful!
An invasive woodland orchid, hmm, I’m skeptical. I just found a handful of these growing in my driveway this year. They are really pretty little plants, I hope they are invasive because I’d like to have hundreds more. Someone please point me to a picture of this orchid being invasive – until then, I am just not buying it.
I do agree but it is listed in PA as an invasive just beware! Lol
Do you still think they are not invasive in 2017 after some experience with them? I can’t keep up with digging them out and the root structure is unbelievable. They are coming up everywhere! I’m worried about my other plants.
I wrote this knowing it was an invasive. I am fortunate that mine grow in a dry area . I have seen them take over an area. Keep pulling them out! This year seems to be the year for weeds. Good luck.
If you haven’t dug them up, or if you can find more..I’m an orchid collector and have been for this species for a few years. Happy to pay shipping etc or maybe we can make a trade.
Once spring arrives I will see what emerges. I would be happy to send you some if I find them! Bonnie
That would be so wonderful of you. I’ve been asking all kinds of people in so many places and it has been impossible. my email address is missanna208@hotmail.com

Yup. I weeded some from my garden today!
Wish we could contain them in the perfect spot!
