Wrestling Lands Two on Podium at Cliff Keen Invitational

The Sun Devils had a busy weekend in Las Vegas, with ten wrestlers competing and two making it to Saturday evening's championship and third place matches. With two podium finishes, the Sun Devils finished 14th with 51 points. Here's how it happened: 

157lb - Jacori Teemer 

Day 2

Teemer couldn't wait to get to Saturday evening, quickly taking care of Stanford's Daniel Cardenas in a 14-6 major decision to punch his ticket to the championship round. He faced off against a familiar face in 1-seed Peyton Robb of Nebraska. The two met in the '22 NCAA Championships, with Robb taking the match 6-4. With an early takedown, Teemer led 3-1. A takedown from Robb made it 4-3, and Robb closed out the match 6-4. 

 

Day 1

In his first uninterrupted action back from an injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season, Jacori Teemer won by tech fall in 3:54 against Air Force's Brooks Gable. He then faced off against 15-seed Christopher Earnest of Campbell in a bout that ended 6-3 in favor of Teemer. With a trip to the semifinals on the line, Teemer handled business 7-2 versus Ryder Downey of Northern Iowa. He's set to face 6-seed Daniel Cardenas of Stanford at 11:00 a.m. MST Saturday morning. 

 

 

149lb - Kyle Parco 

Day 2 

Parco dropped his semifinals bout with Virginia Tech's three seed, Caleb Henson, in a 5-0 decision. He then took care of business in the consolation semifinals, with a 14-3 major decision over Oregon State's Nash Singleton to set up a match against 4-seed Dylan D'Emilio. Parco used a takedown and a nearfall to go up 6-0 after one, eventually earning an 11-1 major decision to take third place. 

 

Day 1

Set as the No. 2 seed, Parco pitched a shutout in the round of 32 with an 11-0 major decision over Purdue's Marcos Polanco. He followed this up almost exactly with an 11-1 major decision over Cornell's Ethan Fernandez. That night, he faced 10-seed Casey Swiderski of Iowa State in the quarterfinals. With a takedown in the first period, Parco was able to hold Swiderski off for the 4-2 decision and a ticket to the semifinals. He will wrestle 3-seed Caleb Henson of Virginia Tech at 11:00 a.m. MST Saturday morning. 

 

 

133lb - Julian Chlebove 

Chlebove had an action-packed day, beginning with tech falls in both the round of 64 and the round of 32. The first was 19-1, and the second 16-1 over King Sandoval of Maryland. In the round of 16, Chlebove dropped the match to Oklahoma State's Reece Witcraft. Chlebove then rattled off another tech fall against Shawn Ryncarz of Morgan State and a major decision over Richie Koehler of Rider. With a spot in the consolation round of four on the line, Chlebove lost a low-scoring match to Domenic Zaccone of Campbell, 4-2. 

 

 

174lb - Cael Valencia 

As the underdog in his round of 32 matchup against 10-seed Brody Baumann of Purdue, Valencia exploded in the third round with a takedown and four-point nearfall to take the match 9-4. He dropped his round of 16 matchup versus 7-seed Austin Murphy of Campbell to put him in the consolation round of 16 Friday night. He used multiple takedowns to best Hofstra's Ross McFarland 11-8. In the consolation round of eight, Valencia lost a narrow 8-5 match against Ohio's Sal Perrine.
