1/72 Osa Class Missile Boat **FINISHED**
This is the beastie I have chosen, the 1/72 Osa Class from Merit.
As you can see I had to stand on a chair to get the whole box in.
the contents.
Not showing too clearly cos they're still in bags but this is 3 steel prop shafts, a length of chain, a length of copper wire, two brass frets plus the decals and clear parts, all included in the kit.
Think this is gonna be fun.

That looks to be a nice kit, especially with some 'extras' already included! It should be fun to watch as well as hopefully to build
Best wishes

Re: 1/72 Osa Class Missile Boat
I will enjoy watching this build, back in the 70’s, I was an AS12 missile aimer Aircrewman in the Fleet Air Arm and the OSA & Koma FPB’s where our main targets that we trained to hit if we ever had to go to war. The Westland Wasp with its two AS12 missiles was the only defence Frigates had against the Styx missiles .
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: 1/72 Osa Class Missile Boat
Thanks iggie, splash.
Funny that the Wasp was the only defence against the Osa, as Osa is Russian for Wasp . Although that is the NATO name, apparently the Soviets called it the Moskit (Mosquito).
The mouldings clearly show both a Soviet and a Chinese (Type 21) are going to be boxed from this (If it already hasn't). Black marker on areas to remove or drill out, also a mould seam on the bottom and three sprue gates to sort.
Raised areas gone and exhausts drill out. Merit would have you make them all the same size but photos show the lower exhaust is of smaller diameter.
Merit would have you leave the exhausts like that, just a hole in the hull. Have to do something about that. Evergreen stock tubing.
Cut to size.
Fixed in place to leave a small rim outside the hull. The hole in the bottom is for the mounting bolt.
Now I don't know anything about marine diesels but an open exhaust at the waterline looks like trouble. A bit of research (Google is your friend) showed that there is what is termed as a "gooseneck" (basically an inverted U-bend) not far in so simply blocking the ends sufficed for me to stop the see-through look.

Nice work so far Kit; Narrow boats have the same issues if exhausts are positioned too close to the waterline....or more often if too many people are all stood at the stern moving the waterline nearer to the exhaust!
Best wishes

I have wanted to get this kit for a while and do a Syrian boat though haven't found any really good pics of "for sure" Syrian versions.
Kagero just released a Super Drawings 3D publication on this boat which is a great reference for details but not much help for markings.
Nice start.

Re: 1/72 Osa Class Missile Boat
Hull together, top needed to be pushed out to fit the deck. Cabins just dry fitted to check fit which is excellent. Most of my time has been spent making the base as once the hull is painted it will be mounted then worked on from there.

It looks like so far the kit fits together well and your bar will set it off nicely

A beautiful model of a known ship!
Splash! Today your "target" is preserved at the Polish Arms Museum in Kołobrzeg - OSA rocket boat - ORP Władysławowo.
Thank you Splash, that you did not sink him
Below - center for preparing and launching rockets
...Below is another center, just as important as it for launching rockets
and cherry on top - P-15 Termit rocket/SS-N-2A Styx

Thanks for those pics Przemek, and the name in google brought up a whole lot more and certainly helped with some unclear areas. Thanks again.

I am glad that I could help a little Kitaholic. I hope I do not break the forum regulations - but you can find more pictures below. This is my page and photos. If you need larger ones or more, no problem.Kitaholic wrote:Thanks for those pics Przemek, and the name in google brought up a whole lot more and certainly helped with some unclear areas.
