About this work

Description

Herbal medicine. Borago officinalis (Borage). Shows a field of flowering blue plants at a herb nursery. Borage leaves have been used in salads for centuries. It was believed to act as a tonic, inducing a euphoric state. The flowers are edible and have been candied to decorate confectionary. Commonly used to flavour summer drinks, especially Pimm's or home-made lemonade. Frequently grown near apiaries as it produces much nectar attractive to bees. Used as a compress on inflamed or irritated skin.
