Just like many beautifully flowering trees or shrubs, this flowering cherry too comes from China. It even bears a name of an ancient tendai buddhist temple.

Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' - flowering cherry

Kanzan is a small sized tree with double pink to magenta flowers which come out in early April and follow throughout the spring. It is probably the most showy cherry of all and therefore highly popular with garden architects. Almost leafless bare branches covered with enormous blooming is a must see in early spring as well as a must-have. Soil tolerant, prefers a sunny spot. Very hardy.
