Allium Aflatunense also known as Ornamental Onion and Persian Onion, is a flowering bulb that has large, violet-purple multi-flowered rounded umbels that are held on tall leafless stems. An interesting fact about them is that they will bloom when the Daffodils and Tulips are done but before the perennials get started. They do have the characteristic garlic or onion smell to them. Allium is the Latin word for garlic. They will bloom in the Springtime, grow best in full sun with rich, well-draining and neutral pH soil, and will grow between 24 – 36 inches tall. A great characteristic is that it is drought tolerant during the Summer but does appreciate some moisture when blooming. These flowers will attract pollinators to your garden such as Butterflies and Bees while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. They are native to Central Asia, and do well as cut flowers, dried flowers, and also do well in borders in the garden. Another great feature of this plant is that it is low maintenance, that is something every busy gardener can appreciate!

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
