Dianthus Superbus - Superb Pink - Spooky Mix seed

Dianthus Superbus - Superb Pink spooky mix. Common names: fringed pink, superb pink. These plants are not only beautiful and intoxicatingly fragrant, but also tough and robust. These easy to grow but unique and stunning perennials are practically maintenance free. They are tolerant to temperatures well below zero, resistant to drought and still thrive through wet winter weather. Unlike most of the dianthus, this one will tolerate continual moisture, The long spidery petaled flowers are so unique it would be near impossible to describe without a picture or seeing them in person. If cutting is desired, cut only when the flower is “almost” fully open, not in bud. It is advised to use scissors instead of hands to gather the cuttings. Cut at a joint close to the base of the plant. Snapping by hand may injure the stem. The plants are commonly used in a vast variety of places that includes cottage gardens, informal gardens, natural gardens, borders, beds, dry gardens and rockeries. They are also edible. Their spicy clove-like flavor is used in salads, on top of ice cream, and decorating or adding to cakes. They can also be used in sorbets, fruit salad, seafood and stir fries; also used to add flavour to sugar, oils and vinegars. This plant was named by a Greek botanist, Theophrastus decided to call it Dianthus, which in Greek translates dios meaning ‘divine’ and Anthos ‘flower’, meaning ‘God’s flower’.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!

SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!

ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.

DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.

Good Luck and Happy Planting!!!!
