Nicole Richie and daughter Harlow, 15, look like they could be TWINS in rare photo as they pose with her sister Sofia and mother Brenda Harvey for Mother's Day

Nicole Richie shared a sweet photo with three generations of her family as she celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday.

But it almost looked like two generations, as Nicole's 15-year-old daughter Harlow bore such a strong resemblance to her that she could have been her sister.

Nicole and her husband Joel Madden have largely kept their daughter out of the spotlight. They also have a son Sparrow, 13.  

In this rare family snap, the 41-year-old reality star and socialite looked elegant in a black sweater and matching slacks, while Harlow complemented her in her own thin black top, along with contrasting beige khaki cargo pants.

Sister between the mother–daughter duo was Nicole's mother Brenda Harvey Richie, the first wife of her father Lionel Richie.

Rounding out the group photo was Nicole's sister Sofia Richie, who is the product of Lionel's second marriage to Diane Alexander.

Nicole captioned the family photo, 'We all love you,' and, 'Happy Mothers Day Queen,' indicating that even Sofia shared affection for her sister's mother. 

Brenda looked glamorous ink a lacy yellow dress covered in coral-like stitching, and she wore her long brunette hair in thick curls resting over her chest.

Sofia kept things casual in a white top with black pants.

It wasn't clear if the quartet had snapped the photo for Mother's Day, or if Nicole was reusing an older photo. 

She also posted several throwbacks of her mother at her most glamorous, when she was just a child.

Brenda wore a striking white striped blazer with a black-and-white multi-patterned dress in one cute snap, while little Nicole had on a white dress and carried a stuffed bear with a crown on its head. 

She was a bit older in a follow-up photo illustrating how much she and her mother used to match their outfits.

The two had on matching black dresses covered in identical gold designs, though Brenda's look appeared to be a bit more sheer.

'Thank you for making sure our fits were right & tight for all of the 80s,' Nicole joked in her caption.

Another photo illustrated their strong bond, as she revealed that her mother still kept portraits of the two up in her house.

'No one could ever walk through your house and question your love for me,' she wrote atop a photo of two visitors posing with one of the portraits. 

She and Brenda apparently had another portrait, which was framed in gold and showed the two in lacy bead-covered dresses.

A third portrait of the two was illustrated, but it was a smashing likeness. 

While looking back at a photo of herself and her mother dressed in hats, she joked that she would be wearing to put them on again for the holiday. '

But she '[drew] the line' at a pair of off-the-shoulder dresses with multicolored bodices and seafoam green skirts.

'And finally, I would like to apologize to you, for shaving off my eyebrows, and lying to you about it when I was 13,' she wrote.

'I was developing a serious unibrow and desperately needed a glow up, and you were standing in my way,' she added as she twisted the knife for comic effect. 

Nicole is the adoptive daughter of Brenda and Lionel. She was born to Peter Michael Escovedo, a member of Lionel's band, and Karen Moss.

When she was three, her parents asked Lionel and Brenda to care for her, as they were unable to afford her needs. They became her guardians, and six years later the arrangement became permanent when they officially adopted her.

Despite popping up in Nicole's Mother's Day post, her sister Sofia also shared her own tribute to her mother Diane Alexander Richie.

Happy Mother's Day to the queen of my life @dianekrichie,' she captioned a photo of her mother looking glamorous.

The fashion designer wore a sizzling sheer dress decorated with gold floral designs as she descended a grand staircase. 

'I love you so much mom,' Sofia captioned a photo of herself and her brother Miles sitting between their mother's legs in a black-and-white photo snapped in a picture studio.

Nicole had on a pink-and-red two-piece of her own as she embraced her mom for a hug. 

Her final post showed Diane in the same sheer and gold dress as the first post, but this time she was being escorted down the aisle at Sofia's wedding to Elliot Grainge.

'How are you real???' she gushed about her mother's age-defying beauty.
