Dell Optiplex GX1 500mhz with NVIDIA GeForce 6200

This model is over 20 years old and some PCI versions of 6200 are not compatible with the GX1 AMD Rage pro onboard.  Non universal PCI cards will not work at all.

They have 2 keyways in them instead of one.

This model will run XP max and its not upgrade-able.

If you need to run some older software look for OPTIPLEX GX620 tower.  This model will run MSDOS all the way thru windows 10 without issue.

Okay although it would work fine with maybe a GeForce FX 5200 PCI or it definitely would work fine with a GeForce 4 MX 420, 440 & 460 PCI card though aswell as a Radeon 7000/7500 PCI and even a GeForce 2 MX 200/400 and even of course a NVIDIA Riva tnt2 and even 3dfx voodoo 5 pci card and lastly as another card I will list is the rage 128/128 pro PCI.

Nothing whatsoever to do with GPU being a type. PCI version MUST BE 2.2 or higher Universal PCI with 2 keyways in the slot.  Plugging earlier version of card with only 1 slot keyway can damage motherboard permanently.

the second link you provided to me was a geforce fx 5500 pci as the 5500 pci i hear doesn't work on some motherboards with agp though.

ALL universal PCI cards work fine EXCEPT cards that match onboard AGP with PCI version.

So this card wont work in GX1 because it conflicts with the onboard Rage AGP controller.

  No Idea where you got the idea that 5500 in particular does not work on systems with AGP that's false.  I still own all of the Items I linked and they work fine with Optiplex GX1 with AMD RAGE PRO AGP as well as with GX240 260 with AGP. And Ancient Dimension 4100 with AGP.  You cannot use Geforce AGP with a 5200 or 5500 or 6200 along with AGP version of those cards because they are not SLI and they dont like sharing I/O and memory map.

The rage pro agp on GX1 is on the board so no slot is offered.

The 5500 models that do not work are not universal pci versions aka they are 5v only cards.

So again your Ideas are somewhat incorrect.

Thats also why you cant add a universal pci Rage pro because it conflicts with onboard AGP.

I'm sorry I was meant to type GeForce FX 5500 pci doesn't work on boards without AGP as I always knew the PCI 5500 works on a AGP board aswell as obviously the AGP one...whoops.
