I purchased these last fall to shoot out of my Lyman Great Plains Hunter. I was really only looking for something inexpensive that would keep me use to the thump of the gun. I had previously been hunting with PowerBelt Bullets both JHP and lead with acceptable results. However over the course of several shooting sessions and running almost 60 of these maxi bullets through the gun I quick tossed the PowerBelts away. And decided to use the Maxi Bullets for this years Muzzleloading season Not only were the Maxi cheaper but they were more accurate. At 75 yards with a 90 grain powder load I could keep 4 out of 5 maxi's in side the 2 ring the power belts were 4 out of 5 in side the 4 ring. With out a doubt (and from practical experiance) both types of rounds would take out a deer effectively. I just liked the slightly better accuracy and cheaper cost of the Maxi Bullets. Of couse with all muzzle loading weapons and rounds your milage may vary. Its always best to find what shoots best from your gun.

Purchased the first box because they where cheap. I will only shoot these bullets in my Thompson caplock. With iron sights they shoot clover leafs at 50 yds. and just under 2\" at 100 yds. I think they would shoot better if my old eyes could see the sights better. I sent all the expensive bullets down range as practice bullets."

Undersized for my 1863 Shiloh Sharps
The good: high quality bullets, sharp shoulders, excellent casting. The bad: undersized for my 1863 Shiloh Sharps Farmingdale. I can push the bullet all the way into the rifling. I miked the top band at .532; a very old lot of Thompson Center maxi balls miked .54. Summary: high quality bullet - just not a good fit for my Sharps
