Forms dense sward with numerous vegetative shoots which creep along the ground, some of which can develop roots and tillers at their lower nodes. Shoots early in the spring after winter dormancy and produces approx. 15–30 cm long culms bearing inflorescences which flower in April/May and mature in late May. Supina bluegrass is particularly widespread at altitudes above 500 m and occurs in alpine meadows. In lowland areas it is easily overwhelmed by more competitive species. Widespread in alpine meadows, average feed value (5), tolerates shade and traffic. The latter traits make it an ideal turf grass, particularly for shady areas.
