In their reworked illustrations from colouring books Jake and Dinos Chapman deliberately play off childhood innocence against the macabre and the sinister. Commissioned exclusively by Counter Editions I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago (I) and (II) (2010) illustrate imagined moments in the mind of a child. Idyllic images of sweet, grinning children playing happily with pet rabbits are subsumed into nightmarish visions of decaying corpses and lurking monsters. A one-eyed beast hovers, disembodied eyes stare, fearful and bloodshot, whilst the rotting mouth of a monstrous creature growls through the horror.

I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago (I) and (II) (2010) have been published to coincide with the exhibition Jake or Dinos Chapman at White Cube, London.

Founded in 2000 Counter Editions commissions and produces prints and multiples by leading contemporary artists including John Baldessari, Rebecca Warren, Peter Doig, Roni Horn, Tracey Emin, and Chris Ofili.
