Hawthorn flower extract is used for its properties against tachycardia. Also, it shows “antihypertensive, antispasmodic and diuretic” activity. Hawthorn flower is also a good source of natural antioxidants finding application in medicine, especially for the free-radical protection it provides, food technology and cosmetic formulations.[1]

Crataegus monogyna leaves show antimicrobial properties against 4 bacteria such as Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Also, antioxidative properties were observed due to flavonoids and polyphenols presence. [2]

Hawthorn flowers and leaves' natural components are used in the production of medication and therapies that support the cardiovascular system as “cardiotonic, anti-hypertonic anti-hypotonic, artherosclerotic, anti-arithmic and anti-anemic” agents. Out of the flavonoids group, it’s primarily Hyperoside that makes Hawthorn flowers and leaves extract a significant ingredient in pharmaceutical preparations.[3] Distinguishing among the different parts of the plant, the extract derived from Hawthorn flowers was tested to have the highest concentration of tocopherols and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C).
