Seeds need cold stratification.

Deptford Pink( Dianthus armeria) is annual or biennial, depending on your location.
In my area, USDA zone 6, it's biennial.
This species usually grows in full sunlight in mesic to dry conditions. It appears to flourish in a clay-loam or gravelly soil that is somewhat compacted and heavy.
Seeds will germinate when the soil temperature reaches at least 60F for at least a week.

******How to sow seeds?
Seeds need cold stratification.
Sow seeds just below the soil surface and press them down firmly.
You can direct sow seeds in late fall or sow cold stratified seeds in spring.
To cold stratify seeds, you'll need to mix seeds with moist sand and
store them in the refrigerator for at least 30 days before direct sowing.
When the soil temperature reaches 60F and lasts for weeks, seeds will germinate.
Just be patient and let nature take care of the rest. You only need to keep soil moist.
