Start Valerian seeds and grow this well-known herb plant. Valerian is highly prized as a medicinal herb. It is a hardy perennial with a history of use dating back to the 16th century. It is very ornamental with fern-like foliage and pink flower heads that attract butterflies. The Valerian herb is also referred to as All Heal and Garden Heliotrope. Valerian plants are an attractive addition to the herb garden, and cats love the herb too. Sometimes, the plants need some protection from cats who might do damage. Valerian has been used since antiquity as a healing herb.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Plant Valerian seeds directly outdoors in the spring. Lightly cover the herb seeds with soil and keep moist. The Valerian seedlings are fairly frost tolerant. Start with a prepared seedbed that is weed free and has organic matter worked in. The location should be in full sun to partial shade. Valerian herb plants prefer moist conditions, so provide the equivalent of 1 to 2 inches of rainfall each week. The plant will need nitrogen throughout the growing season. If you are growing Valerian herb plants for the root, cut the flower stalks when they appear. This will direct energy to the roots. Wait until the second year to harvest and dry the roots. Valerian will self-sow. Cut the spent flower heads to prevent re-seeding.

In other words, a grower can cause high-germination rate, viable seed to fail. Nevertheless, we unconditionally guarantee all our seed for 30 days from the tracking verified delivery date and will accept returns on seeds for any reason for 30 days. We do not accept returns on seeds after 30 days from the tracking verified delivery date for any reason. Shipping fees on shipped packages will not be refunded.

We pride ourselves on getting orders out on the same day. The last pickup for our post office is 5pm ET and as long as the order is put in before noon, we will usually have your seeds out the door that day. Orders after noon will ship the next morning. Orders after close of business on Friday as well as orders on Saturday and Sunday will ship on Monday morning. There are times though like during peak growing seasons in the spring that our processing time may be longer. Please check our processing time on the listing for our current times.

All seeds will come in a small plastic baggy labeled with the seed name, number of seeds and a brief description of the growing instructions. That baggy is put into cardstock which adds to the protection. We have found that the number of seeds damaged in transit significantly reduced with this method versus wrapping it in foam paper and just putting it into an envelope like many sellers do.

Buying from this seller was a great experience. Shipping was fast. Packaging was minimal, but prevented damage in shipping. I haven't planted yet, so can't speak to germination rate.
