A deciduous tree, grown for its spectacular blossoms in spring and the sweet edible fruits that follow.
It has broad, heart-shaped mid-green leaves and produces white to pink flowers on spurs on the one-year-old wood.
The fruits are an orange-yellow, sometimes flushed with pink and taste great when ripe.
Another attractive feature is the gnarled trunk that it eventually acquires with age.
