What: Campanula lactiflora is a classic old-fashioned, romantic, cottage garden perennial. In July, this tall bell flower produces clusters of star-shaped blooms that vary from white to deep sky blue on 4- to 5-foot stems. The delicate airy blooms will be in color until the end of August. Trim back fading flowers to encourage rebloom later in the season. Also known as milky bellflower, it is easy to grow and also makes a great cut flower.
Where: This vigorous perennial grows well in full sun to light or open shade. It prefers a rich moist or well-drained soil.
Size: Milky bellflower grows to be 5 feet tall with a 2-foot spread.
Care: Provide regular watering during the summer. Trim back fading flowers to encourage rebloom later in the season.
