Native to the rocky cliffs of Japan, China, and South Korea, this creeping ground cover has become very popular. Saxifraga stolonifera, Strawberry Begonia gets its name from its runners, which look like strawberry plants. For woodland gardens and shady areas, it is an evergreen, mat-like ground cover that does its job well. You might also consider growing it indoors. In a container, its runners creep out over the sides. Its average growth is about 8" in height and 24" in width. It features green, rounded leaves that are hairy and tinted with red. In the summertime, flower stems display white flowers about a foot above the foliage. It is easy to propagate and gift to friends.
  • Plant Type: Perennial
  • Zone: 6 - 9
  • Light Requ's: low to bright, indirect light
  • Dimensions: 8.00in high, 2.00in high on delivery, spreads 24.00in
Care: This plant appreciates fertile soil, so start with a good growing medium and then continue to apply plant food monthly. Its growing medium should drain very well, and care should taken to avoid getting water on its leaves. Water once the soil dries out, soaking well but then allowing the excess water to drain very quickly. To propagate "baby" plants, take a runner with a leaf and, keeping the runner attached to the "mother" plant, cover a portion of both runner and leaf in the same soil in which the mother plant sits.
Note: Any accessories pictured are not included, for illustrative purposes only.
