Installation directly refers to the renaissance painting (with the same title) of Nicolas Poussin. The meaning of the phrase that appears on the monument from the painting is uncertain. Et In Arcadia Ego is a nominal phrase with no finite verb.It is said that historians unaware of that aspect of Latin grammar have concluded that the sentence is incomplete, and have speculated that it represents hidden message possibly anagrammatic code.
