False Fox-sedge - Carex otrubae

Description

A densely tufted plant the stems have scarcely winged angles, unlike True Fox-sedge. It has narrow, elongated orangey brown panicles and bristle like long bracts with green bases.

Wet places on heavy soils, marshes, pond margins, and coastal.

When to see it

Flowers June to August, fruit until September.

Perennial.

UK Status

Frequent in lowland areas of Britain.

VC55 Status

Frequent in damp places in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 260 of the 617 tetrads.
