It’s about to feel hot — very hot.

The heat index in South Florida could reach 105 degrees later this week, according to a National Weather Service forecast.

A high-pressure system plus “pretty moist conditions” will push the “feels-like” temperature into the low to mid-100s starting Wednesday, NWS lead forecaster Anthony Reynes said.

Think you might escape the heat by heading inland? Think again.

“It’s pretty much all of South Florida,” he said.

The severe afternoon thunderstorms that have hit Palm Beach County for the past few days will continue through at least Monday, Reynes said. But don’t expect things to dry out.

“There might be after that a little bit of a decrease in activity, but still we can expect at least scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon,” he said.

“It is summertime in Florida,” he added.

People should stay out of the sun in the early afternoon hours, between 1 and 4 p.m., Reynes said. Stay hydrated, and watch for symptoms of heat stroke, he said.
