Pair of 4-time champions and team scoring record highlight Penn State’s NCAA wrestling domination

Penn State vs Ohio State wrestling

Penn State’s Carter Starocci and teammate Aaron Brooks became the first Penn State wrestlers to win four NCAA wrestling titles and only the sixth and seventy wrestlers in history to achieve that. Penn State's 172.5 points also set a NCAA scoring record and its winning margin o 100 points did the same. Joe Hermitt | jhermitt@pennlive.comJoe Hermitt | jhermitt@pennlive.com

KANSAS CITY — A pair of four-time champions, a third straight team title, four individual titlists, eight All-Americans and a record for most team points scored was enough to reword the recently popular question of ‘who has it better than Penn State?’

At this time in college wrestling, that answer is obvious because it’s nobody. Nobody was close to the Nittany Lions. They totaled 172.5 points, a full, record-breaking 100 points better than Cornell’s 72.5. That eclipsed the 170 that Iowa scored in 1997 and rendered the rest of the field hopeless of catching up to what has become a collegiate dynasty.
