Curlycup gumweed is a late-bloomer that anyone with some heavily disturbed or compacted land (that's most humans) should know about. This hardy plant likes road cuts, trail edges, and the drier the better. Bright yellow flowers on sticky 'curlycups' bring in a multitude of native bees in the late season when other flowers are only a memory. Extra water can turn these plants into formidable specimens (I have a monster gumweed outside the greenhouse where I dump my pot washing water), which could be desireable or not depending on the space.
