Erect stems in loose clump from basal rosette of leaves. Lance-shaped toothed leaves with conspicuous veins on short petioles. Inflorescence glandular, consisting of many branches with small opposite leaves, leafy bracts at base of flower stalks. Flowers pale pink to white, petals up to 1/3 in. long. Abundant in moist meadows, streambanks, roadsides, disturbed sites, at low to mid-elevations. A widely variable species, the taxonomy of this and very similar subsp. watsonii and subsp. glandulosum is difficult and confusing.
