Twenty-six years after he died, Frank Zappa will return to the Edinburgh Playhouse theatre to open a UK tour with his former bandmates.

The Bizarre World of Frank Zappa, which opens on May 9, will feature a hologram of the outlandish musician performing as if nothing had changed since his band played together on the seminal Joe’s Garage albums in the late 1970s. His son, Ahmet Zappa, described the show as “mind-melting”, celebrating the music and often surreal imagery and humour associated with his father, who was a “futurist and hologram enthusiast”.
