Stockpiles of chemical weapons have been discovered in Libya, laying waste to Colonel Gaddafi’s claim in 2004 that they had been dismantled, David Cameron said last night.

The revelation is particularly shocking given that the North African dictator’s pledge to rid his country of weapons of mass destruction resulted in the infamous handshake with Tony Blair.

The former Labour Prime Minister embraced the tyrant and welcomed him as an ally in the war on terror — despite Libya’s involvement in the Lockerbie bombing and the murder of the British police constable, Yvonne Fletcher.

Now Mr Cameron has suggested that Gaddafi lied to Mr Blair and kept WMD “hidden from the world” for years.
