Trees of Wisconsin

Pyrus communis L.
pear
Family: Rosaceae
bud branch
bud branch branch immature fruit

The leaves of Pyrus communis are simple, alternate and toothed and the upper surface is often dark green and shiny when mature. The flowers are similar to Malus pumila, with 5 conspicuous white petals.

Pyrus communis is far less commonly planted in Wisconsin then is Malus pumila and it rarely escapes near plantings, although it may persist for decades, long after buildings are gone on old farms, etc.
