Corylus colurna TREEVOLUTION® 'VDB Obelisk' Corylus colurna 'VDB Obelisk'

This selection was found in an existing group of trees at Schijndel (NL) by Mr P.C.M. van den Berk. The tree catches the attention by its slender pyramidal crown. As far as known it attains a height of circa 10 - 12 m. The trunk gets a ridged corky bark at an early stage. The branches also have a soft corky bark. The leaf is wide ovate to round-ovate with a double serrated margin and is woolly haired. The leaf base is strikingly cordate. The inflorescence is formed by male catkins that hang down gracefully and inconspicuous purple-red, female flowers. These appear well before the leaves. The tree gives very few nuts and has a deep going root system. Strong tree that is little susceptible to diseases and is well drought resistant. Hard surfaces are tolerated well too. May become a promising street tree.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2024.
