Description

A perennial grass used for live stock and sports fields. The name comes from the Greek word ‘grostis’, meaning grass.

Flowers

The finely divided flower panicle grows up to 40 cm long. The individual spikelets are attached to shoots rather than the main stem; after flowering they contract slightly.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Tapering blade, rolled-up when young, blue green, 2-6 mm wide.

Fruits Seeds

Caryopsis: a dry fruit, containing a small tear-shaped grain.
